About PJS Consulting Engineers

PJS Consulting Engineers is an innovative civil engineering and structural engineering company, based in Nottingham. The in-depth knowledge and forward-thinking approach of PJS has given the company a wealth of experience serving a wide variety of industries, including social housing, government, education, and much more.

PJS wanted a new office building to accommodate their expansion. These new premises were to be a place that would speak for their personality, take care of current staff, and attract new talent. Arc Business Interiors were assigned to design a space to fulfil these goals. With years of experience designing and fitting bespoke workspaces that are both highly creative and exceptionally functional, we were the right fit for PJS.

Our brief

Due to expansion, PJS were looking for larger premises to continue their growth. A search was conducted to find new premises, and the client found Geneva II on the Sherwood Business Park, just off J27 of the M1. While the office was twice as big as what they initially needed, it would allow the ground floor to be let out to others to bring in further revenue, while PJS decided to establish their head office on the first floor.

Our Designer, Keiren, met with the two directors of PJS, Natalie and Paul. The client envisioned a modern space with a pop of colour that contained breakout spaces where the whole team could be brought together, along with a couple of private offices, meeting rooms, a large open plan space for expansion to 42 desk spaces, collaboration zones, and a print zone.

Ultimately, the client wanted a space to be proud of and a space where they could welcome and host clients. Wellbeing was a big driving force behind the new office design too, and an agile working space was key for the benefit of their staff. This was also imperative to not only retain current staff but attract new talent in the future.

What we did

Once we had received the brief, Keiren produced 2D plans, 3D visuals and a movie walkthrough for the client so they could immerse themselves in the design of their future office space. The client requested that every element displayed in the walkthrough was to be incorporated into the final result, from the colours of the walls right down to the details of what the columns and bulkheads would look like.

Our design team always brings passion and vision to every project, making sure that every element of the brief is fulfilled. Part of this means going above and beyond for our customers. In this case, we needed to condense a six-week programme of work into four weeks to meet the client’s move-in date, something successfully overseen by the project manager, Mark Baker, and with some staff working evenings and weekends to meet the client’s deadline.

The final result included open-plan offices, meeting rooms, cellular offices, canteen/breakout zones, and collaboration areas. We took care of every detail, including flooring, decorating, joinery work, kitchen, graphic walls, slat walls, furniture, seating, plumbing, partitioning and bespoke storage.

The project statistics

The project had an overall value of £100K, covering half of the 7241 square feet which accommodated the 32 staff members.

The handover

Once the project was completed, PJS were very pleased with the final result. They were happy that all the initial visuals and walkthroughs had been successfully reproduced in the finished job, giving them a fresh modern space that allows them to meet their goals of retaining current talent and drawing in new employees.
